For the Students of University of Debrecen

If you have Generali STUDIUM health insurance and you feel sick, you may seek medical help in various forms in the University of Debrecen Clinical Center. However, you have to adhere to certain rules set by your Health Care Plan.

1. Your GP is Ágnes Bertók MD, who provides primary medical care for all students who are covered by the STUDIUM Health Insurance Policies. Therefore, you shall see your GP, Dr. Ágnes Bertók first, in her office hours (Monday- Friday, 9.00- 12.00 and 13.00- 15.00). Her office is located at 4032 Debrecen, Egyetem tér 1, in the building right behind the Coordinating Center for International Education. If your condition requires a consultation with a specialist, Dr. Ágnes Bertók will refer you to a specialist of the University of Debrecen Clinical Center.

Therefore, it is not advised to turn up at a clinic without a referral from Dr. Ágnes Bertók, since clinics require referral from primary care providers. Without a referral, you may be asked to pay the full cost of your care in advance.

2. After the hours of Dr. Ágnes Bertók, if you feel that your acute condition requires immediate help, you may seek medical help at the Emergency Room (ER) of the University of Debrecen (UD) that is located at the ground floor of the Institute of Internal Medicine Building "A". You may call ahead before arrival (phone no.: +36301989392); and an English-speaking representative, usually a 5th year medical student on call, will assist you. The phone service is available from 7PM till 7AM (weekdays) or from 4PM till 7AM (weekends and holidays). The representative is responsible for providing you with suggestions to where you should go with your medical problem. In most of the cases, it will be the ER of the UD. After your arrival to the ER, the aforementioned English-speaking representative may help in guiding you through the process of triage/tests all the way to either discharge, or admission. He is not responsible for suggesting or indicating any tests, examinations. Furthermore, he is not in the position of speeding them up, however, he can help you understand the aforementioned process. Before discharge, the student can give you directions on further steps (location of the pharmacy, opening hours, where you can find the site of further referral recommended by the ER physician, etc.) Before or after the admission, it is possible to discuss insurance issues, but the most detailed document for this purpose is found in your contract with the insurance company.

Please note that the Emergency Room provides medical care for acute health problems. Some cases are not covered by your insurance policy, therefore, the insurance company may require you to cover the cost of your treatment.

IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY, PROCEED DIRECTLY TO THE DEPARTMENT OF EMERGENCY MEDICINE. IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO MOVE, CALL THE HUNGARIAN EMERGENCY SERVICES (THE AMBULANCE) AT 112 or 104, free of charge.

3. In case of an accident or trauma, you have to seek medical help at Kenézy Hospital Trauma Center (Kenézy Gyula Kórház és Rendelőintézet Traumatológiai Osztály) at 4031 Debrecen, Bartók Béla út 2-26. If your condition requires treatment on the premises (or rescue and transportation), you can call Ambulance at 112 or 104, free of charge.
